Black & White Ceramic Tile Ideas

The choices a black-and-white color combination offer for a tiled space are actually fairly traditional. In conjunction with a claw-foot tub and chrome bathroom fixtures, black-and-white tile design schemes can portray an old-fashioned, early 20th-century craftsman theme.

Adding a splash of black-and-white tile to an area can provide drama and make quieter room colors pop, while mixing up black-and-white field tile and trim in a bathroom can help you customize the room for a distinctive, personal style.

Black-and-White Basket Weave Flooring

During the Victorian era homes featured black-and-white basket weave flooring because of its design style and anti-slip properties. Today basket-weave tile is sheet-mounted onto 12-inch sheets, making a pattern resembling basket-like woven detail. Use black-and-white basket weave as the main design theme of a bathroom floor.

Add a white field tile on bathroom walls with an accenting black bullnose or quarter-round trim. Border a shower niche with black trim and use the black-and-white basket weave as the shower niche’s backdrop.

Black-And-White Checkered Flooring

Use equal proportions of 12-inch black-and-white checkered flooring on a kitchen floor area. Echo the design of the kitchen floor with a black-and-white kitchen wall backsplash or a dash of black and white placed sporadically throughout the backsplash. Use black-and-white checkered flooring in a bathroom and accent the walls with a matte white ceramic incorporating black trim pieces.

Use black-and-white checkered flooring with chrome trim details and funky-red chairs or barstools to project a 1950s-themed bathroom, game room or kitchen

Brick Pattern With Black Trim

Use a 3-by-6-inch white subway tile on bathroom shower/tub surround walls. Add a black liner or ogee trim ceramic tile piece to caps off a shower or tub corners.

Do the same with a wainscoat — short bathroom wall surface — top edge. Complement and contrast the 3-by-6 subway tile with 1-by-1 alternating black-and-white sheet-mounted ceramic tiles.

Black-and-White Hexagonal Flooring

Use black-and-white sheet-mounted 1-by-1-inch hexagonal mosaic tile flooring with an 80-percent white, 20-percent black proportion. Use black-and-white hexagonal ceramic floor tile to spice up a small-scale bathroom floor, and contrast with white tile bathroom walls.

Or sprinkle a few black-and-white hexagons throughout the white-tiled walls; incorporate additional pieces in the bathroom backsplash area.
