Mums and Dads can relate to this scene–they reach for their child’s wardrobe, pull open the door only to be met with items spilling out upon them from every direction! When a child’s room needs organising, it is often difficult to know how to begin such a project. By following this simple plan, parents and children can create a room that is as easy to care for as it is fun to play in.
First, clear out the room as best you can. Grab a rubbish bin and a sack to gather donation items, and begin to work through the room. If your child is reluctant to part with items, a good trick is to stash the items away for a week or so, after which time if the child has not needed to reclaim them, they may be donated.
Once the room has been cleared of unneeded belongings, it is time to evaluate your childrens bedroom furniture. Choosing bedroom furniture which offers storage, such as beds with storage cabinets beneath, desks with attached shelving, or wardrobes with divisions, assists the child to remain organised.
With the bedroom furniture arranged to maximise the amount of open space in the room, the next step is to consider the addition of smaller organisational storage units, such as labelled bins for desk supplies, or hanging pockets for shoes. Include the child as items are put away, and allow the child to help determine where items should be placed.
Lastly, enjoy the results with your child. A well-organised room that the child can maintain is well worth the initial investment.
