Feng Shui Home Decoration

Feng shui is the use of balancing energy in a home for the occupant to achieve good health and fortune. The term evolved from agricultural society. In Chinese feng means wind and shui means water.

Tools

Before a person can apply the techniques of feng shui to their home they must purchase or download a bagua. The bagua is an octagonal grid that is used to determine what elements should be used in decorating.

Sketching

In order to use the bagua, each room in the house must be sketched. Sketch every part of the house including all fixtures like bathtubs, toilets, doors, windows, and sinks.

Use the bagua by placing it over the sketch of each room. This will show which area of the bagua the room falls into. For example, does it fall in the area of wealth and abundance, or into the area of relationships and love? Each of these categories contains at least one of the five Chinese elements, which is where a decorator will draw ideas.

Element Fire, Relationships and Love

Pink represents earth and fire elements. Use items that contain fire and earth elements in these areas of the home, such as a fireplace, candles or plants. Incorporate pink into these items as well.

Use fabrics that are either synthetic or silk in these areas, along with geometric shapes and animal prints. Artwork could depict the sunrise, or bright yellow flowers. Abstract art will work as long as it is geometric in design.

Element Earth, Fame and Reputation

Red represents accomplishment. Use items that are strong and sturdy in these areas. Include dark woods and reds in the decorations.

Areas of the house that fall into this category should feature items made of stone and ceramic. Use yellows and earth tones; patterned furniture is also recommended. Artwork should include sculptures or paintings of deserts or other landscapes. Read the rest of this entry »

About Feng Shui in New Homes

Feng Shui is a practice that has been around for thousands of years. It is revered by many men, women and children as a way of life, to refocus energy to balance life and health in a positive manner.

The ancient techniques first developed in Asia are completely different than the technique developed by Westerners when it came to the United States, and this has caused many to feel that Westerners violated the basic principles of the theory and made it into an industry. Either way, many people still utilize Feng Shui as a way to position their material things around them to promote positive energy.

History

In prehistoric times, Feng Shui first emerged as a type of astronomy to discover the rotation of the planets and gravitational pulls. Thousands of years later, it emerged in China. Then it emerged again 3,000 years ago from the religion of Taoism.

For thousands of years it has been the ancient way of life and religion for millions of people. These people live their lives in the course of the natural balance of energy, and the flow of energy from the living land and the heavens.

With this in mind, it is not surprising that many monks, religious figures and shamans have lived this way since the origin of Feng Shui.

Currently, Feng Shui is still used as a lifestyle, religion and practice. Since the 1970s when former President Richard Nixon traveled to the Republic of China, he brought back Feng Shui and made it into an industry.

Signficance

Feng Shui literally translates to “wind and water.” Since it is such an old practice, it has developed many of our astronomy advances and religions. It focuses on the natural natural energy from the earth and the heavens, based upon the Taoism.

It represents nature and the idea that the earth is a living thing that recycles energy, or Chi. It was believed in Asia that this energy balanced each other out, such as yin and yang, but it could also merge and cause excessive negative energy. In ancient times, Feng Shui was very important in choosing a home, a burial and birth place, as well as an understanding of one’s life force energy.

It is all about choosing a certain “spot” on Earth where the human body will have the best relationship with energy, named “qi” or “Chi.” After this is found, he should not be moved from this spot. That is why many people in modern society use Feng Shui as a way to decorate their homes.

Function

Feng Shui has been utilized by almost every industry for either spiritual or scientific purposes. These include environmentalists, landscape ecologists, architects, geographers, interior decorators, musicians and many more. This ancient belief is used in society today as a way of living and religion. Many use it to balance the energy is their lives and homes.

Feng Shui is incorporated into a new home if the resident wants to arrange the objects and furniture in the home facing certain directions to improve the flow of natural energy. It is said to make people feel at peace with themselves and the world, and to improve their subconscious and physical energy balance.

Features

Ancient Feng Shui can only be practiced with a compass and The Ba-Gua, a octagonal grid containing the I Ching symbols which is what Feng Shui is based upon. The Ba-Gua has 8 areas of focus, that include:

The North focuses on career and life path, and connects with the color black, the element of water, and the human element of an ear.

The Northeast focuses on knowledge and spirituality, and connects with the colors blue, green and black, and the human element of a hand.

The East focuses on health, past and family, and connects with the color green, the element of wood, and the human element of a foot.

The Southeast focuses on money and abundance, and connects with the colors green, purple and red, and the human element of the hip.

The South focuses on fame and reputation, and connects with the color red, the element of fire, and the human element of an eye.

The Southwest focuses on love, relationships and marriage, and connects with the colors red, pink and white, and the human element of organs.

The West focuses on creativity, the future and children, and connects with the color white, the element of metal, and the human element of the mouth.

The Northwest focuses on helpful people, blessings and travel, and connects with the colors white, gray and black, and the human element of the head.

Each of these directions has direct regard to the color and elements it is associated with, and this is how you can alter your home’s energy balance. Read the rest of this entry »
